Modern Meets Tradition

Modern Exercise Science:

The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) developed the OPT model based on scientific research to guide individuals through three progressive levels: stabilization, strength, and power. This evidence-based approach enables the creation of safe and effective fitness programs tailored to individuals of all experience levels and adaptable to any available equipment.

Whether you prefer body weight exercises, free weights, or a combination of both, we’ll create a customized program to help you reach peak performance safely and effectively.

What is Silat Buka Lingkaran?

Traditional Martial Arts

Silat Buka Lingkaran (SBL) is a dynamic and versatile martial art deeply rooted in Southeast Asia. It  blends graceful, controlled movements with explosive, plyometric-like transitions. SBL translates to "Silat Open Circle." The circle symbolizes the fluidity and adaptability of its transitions—whether in distance, postures, or movement between ground and upright positions. The term "open" reflects both the practitioner's personal journey of growth and the inclusive invitation for others to join, share, and expand their knowledge. SBL Fit is a specialized adaptation of SBL, designed specifically to focus on fitness. It serves as the core methodology behind our group conditioning sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Cape Fear Combat Arts different from other personal training facilities?

Cape Fear Combat Arts stands out for its blend of science and tradition.  Combining modern exercise science with the discipline and skills of traditional martial arts into a hybrid in-person and online personal training program.

Do I have to come to a specific facility to train? Do I need any special equipment?

In short, no. I will come to you for 1:1 assessments and sessions. Your program will be designed to help you optimize your health and fitness regardless of what equipment you do (or don't) have.

How are martial arts integrated into this program?

Many of the exercises are based off of the traditional postures and transitions between postures found in the indonesian martial art Silat, namely kucing (cat), buyaya (crocodile), kura-kura (turtle) and harimau (tiger). You will also find kick-boxing and brazillian Jiu-jitsu influence as well.

Do you offer group classes or only one-on-one training sessions?

Our program is a hybrid online and in-person 1:1 and group training program. All members receive a 1:1 in person assessment and personal workout plan tailored to meet their personal goals. Re-assements are performed monthly. There is an option to schedule more frequent 1:1 sessions based on your individual needs. Online group conditioning sessions are offered at no additional charge to all members. You can participate from anywhere you can get an internet connection.
